I came across this t-shirt design today while I was shopping. This was a nice iconic image of Batman but with the type design  really made it stand out as being fresh and new. You couldn’t really notice the text but you got closer to look at it – the text started to become clearer. I really like how the variation of text size is still clear to read and the image of Batman of only being two color complements the gray t-shirt.

Let it Flow

This season on Project Runway All Stars there was a challenge that the designers needed to design an out fit that would move… there were heavy duty fans on the runway. This week’s winner was Sam Donovan. His design was very successful, a very classic look of black and white and the pattern really showed movement without the fans. What I really liked about his design was that it really showcase the models figure when the wind was not blowing. His design and his story was very cohesive and when you don’t need to know one of the other and it all comes together that is a very successful design.

Saw this in Ronald Reagan Airport and it stood out on the line up restaurants. I really like the simple use of the ampersand and it being black and white. & is a simple quick read. With the hustle of being in an airport, you don’t always have time to stop and read a sign. There is consistency; the photos in the restaurant and the pizza boxes are black and white. Overall the ideas and concept are simple and focus on the customer¬† & pizza.

Heard Adele’s new song and was blown away. So happy to hear a new  song that focuses on lyrics and instrumental high lights,. I looked up the music video and loved the black and white. It was simple but the imagery was so meaningful. The black and white helps the viewer to focus on the video. It really gets one to think about the relationships in life.

Had seen this wine, Skulls, in the store from a far but wasn’t sure of the label design. When I first saw it I noticed the man hanging in between the two trees. I never turned the bottle around to see the name. After a few times of it catching my eye I noticed the skull AND then I turned the bottle around.

Then it made sense.  I really like the optical illusion. It’s really creative but most of all its an amazing illustration. I like the attention to details of the textures that define the figures of the illustration. It’s a light handed drawing with a fluidity. It not like the cartoon or photo that some
labels have.

Realism

Came across this label and it really takes me back to my college lecture. I was a fan of my art history classes and this label gives me a sense of realism. Having to think back to my lectures and studio classes all I can recall is Degas. Eward Degas, a french painter who’s style included realism did portray individuals in their element. There are portraits of the female model with her back exposed in Degas’ paintings. This label is a detailed illustration of yhe human form and the title is appropriate, for that little sense of humor.

Use black to your advantage

I got this swim suit as a gift and like how the beachy print is not so expected. There is that floral print that is overly done and gets boring. The black over lay is a different use of creating print. The blocky typography is simple and  allow you to make out the letters at a glance. The use of color is fresh and vibrant.
