A partial blank canvas

I has seen this music video ”  Love Somebody” by Maroon 5 and really like the over all concept.  I know some music videos really play up the storyline of the video and need visuals to help with the understanding of the lyrics but this so simple. Playing with the concept of finding that someone to love and feeling complete and that special someone helping you feel complete. Relationships are a challenge to maintain but knowing yourself and taking the time to understand the other person, even if they don’t know themselves completely or vice versa is what loves is taking the time and making the time….. But any ways. This music video  is so simple and allows the viewer to imagine that person, since we do not see the complete image of the man and woman there are no ideal images pushed forward, there is enough present for the imagination to take care of the rest.

Black is the Focal Point

May 7, 2013 Leave a comment

I saw this on Dancing with the Stars last night and was blown away with Jaimie Goodwin & Derek Hough performance. The chorography and idea is amazing!!! Besides the dancing – the over use of the reds and pink are over kill for the simple set but having the dancers all in black with an sheik grunge feel helps make them the focal point. I am a fan of having one wall with a heavy print wall paper in a room, this really help bring in the eye and ground the room.  But over all there is a great sense of vintage and modern grunge to the whole thing, from the set design, costumes and to dancing.  Please watch the entire video!!!

Classic

Iconic is Iconic

Everyone is familiar with Swan Lake. Even if you do not care for the ballet or appreciate the arts things are still recognised. I have come across this video while taking a break and looking for new dance videos for inspiration…  This show case in my opinion if more theater  arts mixed with ballroom.  I am very impressed with the fluidity of the movements and how the highlights in the music really are interpreted in their dance movements. For those not familiar with the ballet or Swan Lake you can still tell it’s from Swan Lake just from the outfits – there are somethings we will never misinterpreted since certain forms of dance and art have been consistent over the years….

It’s Love at the End of the day

Saw  this movie on tv  and there is so much to take in, but this sence is really powerful. (I had seen it before but this time it made me think a little more) I guess realizing what have in life and there’s nothing wrong with wanting a little more. Sometimes it takes doing something out of your comfort zone to realize things about your life and helps you see the greatness you already have.

This scene of the couple in black and the red rose – it seems so classic and there is a clear focus on them. No one else in the scene is in all black. Along with the song (Book of Love – Peter Gabriel) is so touching and does tie the story of Richard gear’s character developement all together.

Flirty

I was in Ohio this past week and competed in Ohio Star Ball. I did do well , got Top Male Student for the Bronze Level.  I really enjoy Ohio, you get to see so much dancing and the professional night was amazing. This couple (I dont recall their names) did dance very well is Ohio. The had great energy, strong lines and good technique. But her dress – being black and white is fun and flirty – the rhinestone bodice adds that sparkle to stand out on the floor but the layers of black and white are simple. If the dress had layers of black and shite mixed – it would not make the dress clean – there would be shades of gray. Since the material is sheer, you would loose the impact of the colors black and white.

Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition Logo

June 20, 2011 Leave a comment

I had recently competed in the Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition and did relatively well.  The logo for Yankee Classic Competition is very stricking and classy. It consists of the Y and C. The color scheme for the competition is black and pink, I was glad to see that is no over kill for the use of pink but there is nice balance between the use of the two colors. The lettering for the logo is elegant but I do wish tat the letter Y was more distinct .I know its probably the construction of the font, I do not know what the font family name is but if / when I do find out, I need to look at the other letters then I can get a better feel and tone of the font. With saying that the logo was applied to the certificates, print materials and on the shoes bags. The applications to different materials / surface was done well – I know there are logos that need to be adjust due to the surface. But this is a great example of having simple logos can go a long way and with the right choice of color and font can give it a unique and distinct look and recognition, which is clearly represent in the Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition Logo.

It was my first time attending Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition and it was a great experience and hope to go back in 2012. Thank so much John and Cathi!!!!

Classy

I came across this video and for a dance (rumba) that symbolizes loves, romance and sex appeal this presentation is very classic. From the dance moves and their synchronized body movements to their costumes— its amazing.  They have a great connection mentally and physically. I know a partnership between dance competitors  is more mental than physical but they are really presenting themselves with an independence and unity as a couple– if that makes sense. I guess i mean is that there in the routine there is focus on the man, then the woman and themselves as a couple?  With the action and reaction they move and  glide across the floor like butter.

As for their costumes her dress is simple and the gloves pull the look together. There is a nice balance of black and white – especially since she has dar hair. I’m glad to see that she didn’t over do the makeup or hair comes to show that the simple details make a big presentation. And for him he is in all black but the mesh shirt gives another tone of black – the see through mesh breaks the blacks and is clear in the different angles and poses as the body moves.
