Let it Flow
This season on Project Runway All Stars there was a challenge that the designers needed to design an out fit that would move… there were heavy duty fans on the runway. This week’s winner was Sam Donovan. His design was very successful, a very classic look of black and white and the pattern really showed movement without the fans. What I really liked about his design was that it really showcase the models figure when the wind was not blowing. His design and his story was very cohesive and when you don’t need to know one of the other and it all comes together that is a very successful design.
Use black to your advantage
I got this swim suit as a gift and like how the beachy print is not so expected. There is that floral print that is overly done and gets boring. The black over lay is a different use of creating print. The blocky typography is simple and allow you to make out the letters at a glance. The use of color is fresh and vibrant.
“Alice on Acid”
With the new season of Project Runway starting they just had the unconventional material challenge. For those not familiar with the show, every season one episode will challenge the designers to create a look from unconventional materials that are not fabric but look likea fabric. This season Hallmark Cards was featured as the material of choice for the designers looks. Swapnil Shinde’s look was amazing. His use of color and materials he used really created a fashion forward look. With his concept being strong and complete from start to finish proved to place him in top looks. His idea of being Alice in Wonderland in the Hallmark Store he created a look that was titled ” Alice on Acid”. His look was so polished, clean but had a lot going on it really a blast of color overload but paired with the black and white was amazing. The strong used of geometry for the top in black and white gave me a sense of structure and into the skirt there was the whimsical pop of fun and emotional color. The look was is new and fashion forward. Can’t wait until his next design.
On the Red Carpet.
I love seeing black and white on the red carpet. Some of these looks are so classy and sheik and then there are the modern and abstract looks. It seems that it really depends on how the color is used and applied – it really doesn’t set a time or date on it. I guess with the neon colors or prints one might get the 60’s, 70’s or futuristic vibe or the 20’s or 30’s with the muted earth tones and then 80’s and 90’s with the primary colors ….. Black and white, it is timeless.

Dark has never looked to classy
The styling of Regina, the Evil Queen is the series has always been dark high end fashion. The touch of the lace head piece really softens the face. The darkness of the background and the pop of color in the foreground really helps with the portrayal of depth.
Clean modern fun
Found this shirt and really like the clean linear design. The a symmetrical design makes it modern with a fresh look. what really caught my eye is the painter. The black and white element is not the focal point but the secondary elements the eye notices. Looking to but this.
A Modern Business
Saw this ad for the 50 Shades of Grey Movie. I have not read the books but I intrigued but the poster. For a clean, modern and airy design I feel like it is an ad for a Mens’ watch, cologne or suit. I think that having Mr. Grey’s back towards us adds a sense of mystery and allows the perspective to be forced for on lookers of the poster. We get the sense that we are walking into the room.
Black and white is not always dark and gloomy
Went to see Maleficent and was very impressed!! It is a must see movie – very impressive story line and character development. The campaign was a mix of movie posters and commercials but I am very impressed with this poster design the symetical design is very simple and in fashion a strong lip with a pop of color is a must. But this image is not so gloomy and dark – its a mixture of whimsical and high couture.
Classic Modern Twist
Saw this commercial and really like the pop of color with the strong use of black and white geometric shapes. The Peter Pilotto collection uses strong black and white geometric patterns with a pop of color – which brings a youthful and fresh look. From what I can see there is a new approach to the idea of the little black dress. The silhouette of the dresses in the commercial are classic of the little black dress but the use of bright colors, geometric patterns really make the over all look abstract.
