Iconic is Iconic

Everyone is familiar with Swan Lake. Even if you do not care for the ballet or appreciate the arts things are still recognised. I have come across this video while taking a break and looking for new dance videos for inspiration…  This show case in my opinion if more theater  arts mixed with ballroom.  I am very impressed with the fluidity of the movements and how the highlights in the music really are interpreted in their dance movements. For those not familiar with the ballet or Swan Lake you can still tell it’s from Swan Lake just from the outfits – there are somethings we will never misinterpreted since certain forms of dance and art have been consistent over the years….

Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition Logo

June 20, 2011 Leave a comment

I had recently competed in the Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition and did relatively well.  The logo for Yankee Classic Competition is very stricking and classy. It consists of the Y and C. The color scheme for the competition is black and pink, I was glad to see that is no over kill for the use of pink but there is nice balance between the use of the two colors. The lettering for the logo is elegant but I do wish tat the letter Y was more distinct .I know its probably the construction of the font, I do not know what the font family name is but if / when I do find out, I need to look at the other letters then I can get a better feel and tone of the font. With saying that the logo was applied to the certificates, print materials and on the shoes bags. The applications to different materials / surface was done well – I know there are logos that need to be adjust due to the surface. But this is a great example of having simple logos can go a long way and with the right choice of color and font can give it a unique and distinct look and recognition, which is clearly represent in the Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition Logo.

It was my first time attending Yankee Classic Ballroom Competition and it was a great experience and hope to go back in 2012. Thank so much John and Cathi!!!!

I came across this video and for a dance (rumba) that symbolizes loves, romance and sex appeal this presentation is very classic. From the dance moves and their synchronized body movements to their costumes— its amazing.  They have a great connection mentally and physically. I know a partnership between dance competitors  is more mental than physical but they are really presenting themselves with an independence and unity as a couple– if that makes sense. I guess i mean is that there in the routine there is focus on the man, then the woman and themselves as a couple?  With the action and reaction they move and  glide across the floor like butter.

As for their costumes her dress is simple and the gloves pull the look together. There is a nice balance of black and white – especially since she has dar hair. I’m glad to see that she didn’t over do the makeup or hair comes to show that the simple details make a big presentation. And for him he is in all black but the mesh shirt gives another tone of black – the see through mesh breaks the blacks and is clear in the different angles and poses as the body moves.

Black is not just classy but edgy

This video depicts a lot of emotion and passion. The lyrics and dancing are a new twist on ballroom. As the change in music advances so do the dance moves. Ballroom does try to keep up with this new take on music, but the traditional styling is preferred in the end of the day for most.  But the entire tone that is set by the music, the dance moves and attire really puts a classy edgy look to this video. With the use of black there is the classic clean look but the application on the asymmetrical attire and setting really transforms the performance to a whole new level. There is a hint of grunge and edge but over allclassy with a hint of sophistication.

Ballroom of Ballrooms

This pic is of the  NY Dance Festival of 2011. I hope to make it to this grand ballroom at some point of my dance career. The overall look of the ballroom is very clean and elegant and the color scheme of the architecture elements do not over power the special events components. The gold and nutral tones on the wall help reflect the light therefore making the room look light, airy and open.  The ballroom competitors really pop in the photos, I know that designers really work hard to get this functionally yet glamorous dress to really pop on the floor. I have seen this dresses tear on the floor, getting caught in the dancer’s shoe . The  lighting, setting really impact the experience of the dance and the over all appearance of the couple really make or break the dance routine.  This venue really makes the setting for this classy and elegant event.

The classic look…

October 13, 2010 1 comment

As a ballroom dancer this performance was amazing, besides the fact I am a really big fan of  Anna and Jonathan, and the use of black and white really created an interesting  look and feel of the over performance. There is some thing whimsical and magical of the performance. Along with the song, costumes and the setting the entire performance transported you to a dream in the classic old hollywood era– full of class and romance.

I just admire how these professionals make it seem so effortless. I work hard hours in the studio and its a struggle to get the movements so fluid and facial expressions so on spot.
