Heard Adele’s new song and was blown away. So happy to hear a new  song that focuses on lyrics and instrumental high lights,. I looked up the music video and loved the black and white. It was simple but the imagery was so meaningful. The black and white helps the viewer to focus on the video. It really gets one to think about the relationships in life.

A partial blank canvas

I has seen this music video ”  Love Somebody” by Maroon 5 and really like the over all concept.  I know some music videos really play up the storyline of the video and need visuals to help with the understanding of the lyrics but this so simple. Playing with the concept of finding that someone to love and feeling complete and that special someone helping you feel complete. Relationships are a challenge to maintain but knowing yourself and taking the time to understand the other person, even if they don’t know themselves completely or vice versa is what loves is taking the time and making the time….. But any ways. This music video  is so simple and allows the viewer to imagine that person, since we do not see the complete image of the man and woman there are no ideal images pushed forward, there is enough present for the imagination to take care of the rest.

Black helps emphasize White and Red

Heard this song on the radio ( Hunter Hayes – “Wanted”) and was impressed with it. It is a nice love song with great instrumental highlights – so I decided to look up the music video. I like the focus of the guys experience with love perspective. The black and white old time movie feel really keeps it simple but the there is focus on the words, not just as he is singing but the set is designed with it. The white lettering on the glass panels and on the piano show how one can be consumed but the desire of loving someone and being loved. It really gives it a personal touch instead of having words appear through out the music video. Also the use of the red is very little, but effective for the emphasis and enhancement of the item of the color application: the lettering, roses and roadway markings…  The use of the red can refer to love, the heart, fire of love and so on and so on…  but is used enhance the desire to make some one feel wanted: flowers and kisses.

Strong Concept is a PLUS

On the second season on Face off – Rayce Bird won!! It was as close one since the top three contests were amazing and so different – I wasn;t sure what each one would bring to the table. For the final challenge the contestants had to create  three looks, in 4 days and the models would be performing in the costumes for the final act. Rayce had chosen the theme of Sci – Fr and is concept played off dualities – light and dark. His execution was amazing. Each character stood out as an individual but place together it brought his vision and idea to a full completion. The middle character is my favorite. Thye model has two faces and the idea of being a split mind-set or divided into two was amazing.

Here is the final dance scene for Season 2 of Face Off:

Consistency is important.

I heard Katy Perry’s New song ”  Part of Me” and I really like it and I came across this youtube. I really like the Type Design for this and the consistent treatment for the letters do present an urban grunge feel. I really like the hard use of edges, I guess the jagged edges on the vertical lines on the letter forms really incorporate the song title and the lyrics. It is so simple and straight forward but the change in color and use of effects to literally convey the iconic version  of the lyrical sense. (Hope that makes sense.) Examples would be the glowing, the fading and drain and so on and so on…..This really keeps your eyes moving and it is not overly done to the sense where you have to struggle to read the lyrics.

For the type treament it seems theres was a play on addition and subration to the anatomy of the letters. The counters of the letters were remove and jagged line to the main vertical line of the letters were added. I thin when designing type faces the over all apperance of the letters seperate and together are some of the main challenges for type design. In this case you have to remove one thing to add another.

Black and White as a Neutral ?

Madonna was the performer for the Super Bowl XLVI Halftime Show (Sorry Patriots, LOL) , it was a great surprise to see how well she pulled it off! She had a great opening and bringing in Cee-Lo Green, Sky Blu, Red Foo, MIA and Nicki Minaj was the surprise for me. Yes I know there is controversy based on what MIA did but things happen.

I really like how the black, white and color were used for this performance. It was themed for each section and song. It was Egyptian/ Greco-Roman, Futuristic, Modern, Preppy/Sporty, and all around FUN! The unifying colors for the show  were black, white, red and a metallic. I was so simple but made a great impact and beside the great costumes the stage was amazing – I was really impressed with her first song “Vogue” and magazine covers faded in and out. So simple but nicely done, and it brought a vintage feel. This performance really kept me looking for more and it was one surprise after another. Black and white did make a statement but the colors and the different uses helped make the performance pop. When each artist came in for their segment we would notice the difference with the artist, song and change of costume. I think with the black and white being base we noticed the difference styling for each mini performace. It was not to blad and one tone. And I think this was also a great way to transition to her new single and promote it,Give Me All Your Luvin’ (Feat. M.I.A. and Nicki Minaj)  . Not too straight forward with it being the fist song of the night.

Also congratulations to Rami (From Project Runway and Project runway AllStars)- for his deigns that were feature in the Superbowl Half time Show!!! He had designed the goddess outfits – they are in the front line up all in white.
